The aim of this paper is to provide an account of the concept of national interest, and at the same time make an analysis of Russia’s foreign policy that is constructed on the basis of national interest, which in its turn is determined by multiple factors. For some years the attention on the state’s behaviour in the international arena has increased dramatically due to its ambiguous course of action. In order to understand the chosen path of behaviour it is important to analyse the factors that lay behind it.
The first part of an analysis offers a brief overview of the concept of national interest, with more detailed consideration of the facts which have a direct impact on the process of shaping Russia’s foreign policy. Whereas, in the second part the main priorities and interests of the Russian Federation are outlined.
